Foundation Series
Foundation Group - Group classes, 1 hour for 6 weeks
This is the cornerstone of Pilates Matwork; it introduces the client to the key concepts of Pilates but also gets the client to experience the movements. The first 3 weeks introduces different movements whilst constantly exploring and underpinning the concepts. The last 3 weeks uses all the movements previously introduced to create a balanced flowing class to really help the client find the benefit of mat work.
Foundation Express - One to One 30 mins classes (1 to 3 weeks)
Taught one to one this is for clients who have not been able to attend the Foundation Group classes but would like to join a Foundation Plus class. The focus is on the principles that underlie the movements.
Foundation Plus Series
To be done after the Foundation Group or Express
Foundation Plus Foam Roller - Group classes, 1 hour for 6 weeks
Adding the foam roller to the repertoire of movements learnt in the Foundation class adds challenge yet at the same time helps clients to deepen their understanding of the movements all ready learnt. It is very useful for clients with tight shoulders, chest or upper back.
Foundation Plus Theraband - Group 1 hour classes for 6 weeks
The use of the Theraband alters the feel of the moves all ready learnt in the Foundation class, they add challenges but also aids the movements. It also allows for some new Intermediate exercises to be added.
Foundation Plus Foot & Lower Leg Work - Group classes, 1 hour for 6 weeks
25% to 30% of the class is done standing drawing attention to proper leg alignment, working with balance strength and flexibility. It reinforces how the principles learnt whilst lying down on the mat are translated into functional upright movement. The remainder of the class uses exercises learnt in the Foundation.
Open
To be done after the Foundation Plus Series (with approval)
Open Group - 1 hour classes for 6 weeks
Building upon the exercises learnt in the Foundation and Foundation Plus Series, intermediate exercises will be introduced. The movements have levels/options which mean that clients of different abilities will be challenged. Movements will vary from week to week and are varied to suit the needs of the class.
One to One Classes and Assessments
One to One classes can be arranged and last between 30 and 90 minutes
Assessments take 15 mins and use a series of tests to analyse current movement ranges and strengths, this highlights the areas of work that need addressing and which exercises would be best. The scores are not an indication of ability or fitness but act as a series of benchmarks that aids clients in seeing the progress they have made.
