We are pleased to be able to offer an acupuncture service at City Road Physio.
Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain in recent clinical trials and at the practice we offer a Western approach to acupuncture. Recent research is now supporting the effectiveness of acupuncture in the management of back and neck pain and knee osteoarthritis. Clinically, acupuncture is also used to treat musculoskeletal pain from any joint or body area, sports injuries and headaches coming from a musculoskeletal origin such as the spine.
The research suggests that acupuncture works by enhancing the body, via modulatory pain neural pathways involving the brain and spinal cord, to produce naturally occurring pain relieving chemicals. This enhances the body’s own “self-repair” mechanism to enable other physiotherapy treatments to achieve effective results.
Acupuncture combined with physiotherapy treatment is now widely accepted as a way of managing musculoskeletal problems and is viewed as complementary to standard physiotherapy treatment such as joint mobilisation, manipulation, exercise and rehabilitation rather than as an alternative.
Not all of our physiotherapists practice acupuncture, so please ask for the treatment when booking. |
